Ordinary General Meeting 2013

Keep Calm & VolunteerDunbar Community Bakery held its routine OGM on the 21st November 2013. There was no business to conduct, so the meeting was substantially an opportunity to hear about business developments to date, meet the staff and have a chance to taste the xmas fare.

Philip Revell, interim chair, gave a wide ranging update, touching on:

  • financial targets should be met, with a small trading profit before depreciation
  • improvements and refurbishments to the shop – creating a bit more space for staff and for customers
  • the new opening times and more sustainable staff rotas, allowing product development, very successful summer and farmers markets in Haddington
  • the unplanned, but welcome repair of the historic building facade, which should see the scaffold removed next week
  • proposal to run bakery courses in 2014
  • proposal to repaint the front of the shop in a traditional colour
  • proposal to have a single AGM, but to introduce more regular and informal member / volunteer meetings to direct new planned community engagement activities
  • the need for continuing fundraising for working capital, to develop the business and payback short term loans faster
  • the possibility of a 30% tax break for larger investors under HMRC’s Enterprise Investment Scheme, which may be applied retrospectively
  • PR’s intention to resign from the role of interim chair at the next AGM, along with other honorary members
  • a need for new committee members come forward and thanks to Mary Darrah, who has just joined and Kate Darrah, who has recently resigned
  • special thanks to volunteers who currently help with markets and deliveries
